WHY DOESN'T ANYBODY EVER TELL ME THESE THINGS? So there I am, innocently clicking over to the Wikipedia entry for Edward Yang, director of the brilliant, simultaneously epic and intimate, Taiwanese three-hour family saga "Yi Yi (A One and a Two)," as well as the occasionally silly but still compelling and thoroughly entertaining "Mahjong," which co-stars a teenaged Virginie Ledoyen (the hot French chick from "The Beach") but sadly has never been released to DVD in the United Sates.Wait, what about him? Oh, it turns out he died of cancer four months ago today, at age 59. (!!!) Well, that's too bad. I've been waiting on a follow-up to "Yi Yi" for seven years now. Little did I know, I could have already stopped waiting. P.S. If Iñárritu kicks the bucket before his time, will somebody please send me an e-mail? Labels: Chinese Cinema, Edward Yang, Obituary |
